Cowley in the Great War

In the First World War the village of Cowley was a scattering of houses and businesses surrounded by farmland. The size of Cowley could lead one to think that it wasn't greatly affected by the war.

Yet if you look at the War Memorial in St Laurence's church you will see quite a few names listed there. The war had a significant impact on the village.

In the summer St Laurence's church held two exhibitions about Cowley in the First World War. This Christmas season all of the major exhibition panels will be added to the church website as PDFs.

Click on this link to read about the lives of William Snow, John Snow and George Field. See if you can spot which soldier had a Cowley street named after him!
