Don't leave any signs that may indicate that your home is empty.

Fit automatic interior and exterior security lighting.

Ask neighbours to pay particular attention to your premises if you are away during the holiday season.

Property mark, photograph and record serial numbers of all new gifts.

Don't leave car keys or other property easily accessible from the letterbox.

Use mock Christmas presents under your Christmas tree.

Dispose of Christmas packaging discretely.

Tune your radio to a talk radio station and set it on a timer.

If you intend having a drink, don't drive.

Most importantly stay safe and enjoy the festive season!

Set your burglar alarms and timer switches. Secure your home. Secure your garage. Secure your shed.Cowley Community Residents Associationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08663113180556970575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6113006944583131206.post-33138954959233526572015-11-29T19:09:00.000+00:002015-11-29T19:09:07.524+00:00Today's meetingThank you to everyone who came out to this afternoon's meeting in St Laurence's Church Hall.
The size of Cowley could lead one to think that it wasn't greatly affected by the war.

Yet if you look at the War Memorial in St Laurence's church you will see quite a few names listed there. The war had a significant impact on the village.

In the summer St Laurence's church held two exhibitions about Cowley in the First World War. This Christmas season all of the major exhibition panels will be added to the church website as PDFs.

Click on this link to read about the lives of William Snow, John Snow and George Field. See if you can spot which soldier had a Cowley street named after him!

Hillingdon borough police had their own celebrity to switch on their Christmas tree lights.
Over 1000 people attended Uxbridge Town Centre on the eve of Friday, 23 November to see 'Birds of a Feather' star Linda Robson and Mayor of Hillingdon Catherine Dunn press the switch to light up the special tree.

The tree will be on display until Monday, 15th December and is part of the Met wide 'Give a Gift' appeal which allows members of the public to donate a gift to children in care across the borough.

Members of the public are urged to take a tagged ribbon and donate a gift for children aged from 1 to 16 years.

Hillingdon Borough Commander Nick Downing said:

"This is a simple but fantastic idea in the spirit of Christmas which saw thousands of people attend to see the lights being switched on.

"We welcome the generosity of the public in supporting our 'Give a Gift' appeal and spreading some Christmas cheer to children in care across the borough."

How to donate:

The easiest way to donate a gift for this year's Christmas appeal is to take a tag from the tree located in Uxbridge Town centre or Uxbridge police station or email us at hillingdonChristmasTreeProject@met.pnn.police.uk where you will be given instructions on how you can take part.

The suggested spend for gifts this year is no more than £20.
All of the gifts will be wrapped and delivered to the children before Christmas Day.

Titled "Uxbridge landlords urged to clamp down on noisy Brunel University students", the article focuses on the issue of anti-social behaviour among some students living in the local community.

Brunel University community development coordinator Kerri Prince told the Uxbridge Gazette,

"There are just under 15,000 students at Brunel, and we try to ensure good behaviour from all. Our off-campus housing office deals with complaints from the community, to ensure that our residents know that we are committed to making sure our students are good neighbours.

"We are currently looking at ways to work more closely with local estate agents, including landlords. One of these ways is through an accreditation scheme we’re implementing, and the creation of a community guide that goes out to students living off-campus, with guidance and advice on rights and responsibilities living in the community.

"We welcome residents feedback, good or bad, that can help us improve our community."

If you are troubled by noisy neighbours and need someone to witness the problem, you are welcome to contact Steve Hardwicke.
